My first and very favorite deck.

The Mythical Goddess Tarot is here to assist you in realizing your Sacred Feminine essence, providing direct access to the Goddess through her many faces. These beautiful images are portals into dimensions of power and support. This easy-to-use tarot deck will bring joyful transformation to you and your world whether you are a beginner or a seasoned tarot reader.

I love this gorgeous deck. Chock full of the divine feminine and led by the elements, created by Sage Holloway and Katherine Skaggs. It’s a full 78 card deck, certainly not a Rider-Waite tradition deck though I’ve spotted elements of Thoth inspiration. [some images beyond the cut may be NSFW]

The cards are sturdy and glossy, very easy to shuffle. The back of the cards is fully reversible though the LWB does not give reverse meanings. Speaking of the LWB, it’s quite impressive in full color and a beautiful breakdown of what each of the cards are about. This deck shifts the traditional suits to Fire, Earth, Seas, and Wind and the Major Arcana are additionally named for goddesses from multiple traditions. The Court Cards are also transformed into Child, Mother, Maiden, Crone.

Untitled-4Since this is not a deck that adheres to any particular tradition, it encourages the reader to use their own interpretation of the card images in conjunction with the whatever is in the LWB. In fact, I find that my readings with this deck rarely have me reaching for the LWB, and I receive whatever messages I needed to by meditating on the abundant information in the card images.

Untitled-I can almost guarantee you’ll find what you need to in order to understand- or at least to begin to understand- what the card calls you for. The art is rich and full of symbols and markers from multiple sources, as well as alluring for its diversity. It’s a breath of fresh air in a swathe of heteronormative, whitewashed, thin representations people in most tarot decks. If you’re seeking out a deck that explicitly deals in the divine feminine, this is the one for you, but I also insist that you don’t have to identify with femininity to receive its messages (though obviously you can be put off or resistant to its lessons).

RATING: ●●●●○

ETA: More on decks that limit the feminine in cisnormative understandings of womanhood and femininity.
